By Riley Runnells | Asst. Culture Editor

T he first day of school is the perfect time for a fresh start. There is no better time for changing your hair, your clothes or your style. The first day is meant for first impressions, so it’s important to choose your outfit wisely. If you’re out of suggestions and stressing on what to wear, don’t sweat it. Here are six styles to kick off the school year:

Athletic wear

The athletic look is a classic. Throwing on the perfect pair of running shorts or leggings, complete with a t-shirt or tank top and sneakers is a quick look that can easily be made fashionable. The look can be accessorized with a hat or a sweatshirt and for women is usually accompanied by a ponytail or messy bun. It’s a look that says you’re on the go and sporty while doing so. Plus, you can head straight from class to the gym without having to go home and change.

Preppy

The preppy look can be portrayed through many different pieces of clothing, but for women, it’s mostly stiff, clean-cut dresses, fancy jewelry, nice heels, cardigans, dress skirts and shorts and perfectly-styled hair. For men, the look usually comes with dress pants or khakis, clean cut shirts and ties, usually topped off with a jacket and a pair of dress shoes. The prep style usually showcases bright colors or patterns and signifies a business-casual kind of look. It definitely is a good way to look smart and prepared for the school year ahead.

Grunge

A grunge look can be sported in many different ways, but it mostly includes black, white, gray and red, ripped denim, graphic tees and lots of layering. The look can be put together with choker necklaces and other jewelry, big belts, converse, vans and combat boots. This is a more dulled down grunge look, but for a more fashionable grunge look, you can sport darker dresses and skirts. There’s always a difference between a true grunge look and the girlier grunge look, but either way, it’s a cute style to showcase on the first day of class.

Pajamas

If you sleep in sweatshirts and sweatpants, why even change your clothes? The pajama look can be a cute way to head to class and not put that much effort into getting ready. Complete with sweatpants, sweatshirts, flip flops or sneakers, the pajama look is super easy. Usually accompanied by messy buns and no makeup, it’s a great way to rock the cute-but-unkempt look.

Casual Hippie

The casual hippie contains no boundaries. This can range from palazzo pants and a crochet crop top to a denim skirt and blouse. Accessorized with cute sandals, booties, relaxed jewelry and maybe a headband, the casual hippie look can make you look dressed up or casually dressed. Either way, it’s a great look for the first day and a great look to keep up for the entire year.

School Spirit

Bringing apples to professors is a thing of the past. Now, the way to show your school spirit is by wearing all Ohio University gear to show your teachers you’re a dedicated student with a lot of pep. Dressing up in school spirit wear can be an option too, with an OU shirt and skirt or a cute pair of jeans with a belt. OU, oh yeah, right?
